Bathroom color scheme
Your bathroom should be a room in which you are comfortable. Choose the colors you are drawn to, not just what is popular. There is a dizzying array of choices out there, so everyone can find colors to suit their desires. Make your bathroom the gorgeous retreat you always wanted it to be and a spot of luxury and relaxation in your home away from the busy world.
The fashion in bathroom colors is to create harmonious color palettes, using the principles of color and light therapy, to help you heal and live life at best. There are showers with fiber-optic lights in different colors that can be lit selectively according to the feel you want at the moment, mood lighting in the bathroom and light fixtures that can dim down at night or for relaxing mood but can be very bright when you want them to be can help you have the best bath experience.
Bathroom colors for this year are definitely not bright, and tend to be more elegant. People are also choosing to use pearl and metallic finishes, as well. A good rule of thumb is to pick a minimum of three colors for your bathroom. A light color, a medium color and an accent color that is the darkest. Use the light and medium colors for the majority of the room and the accent color sparingly, but in at least three places, such as towels, window treatments or accessories.
Blue is still the most chosen color for bathrooms. This is because is has a calming effect and makes us think of water. Oh, to live by the ocean! Since not everyone can, you can opt for a blue bathroom to fool your brain into thinking that sand and waves are nearby. Blue also has the added bonus of making a small bathroom look larger. This year, blues and the rest of the popular bathroom colors are more muted. Look for blues with undertones of gray, toned-down navy blues, and muted turquoise.
Green is also a very popular choice for the bathroom. Greens with names like, age, moss, sea green and muted jade are making an appearance. Green is also a calming color, and for someone who lives in an area that gets a lot of snow and winter weather, it can provide that touch of green that is missing from the winter landscape.
Surprisingly, purple is also a favorite this years. But not just any old purple. Colors like aubergine and purple dusk, with rich, dusky undertones are the purple we are talking about. Think of excellent wines and Tuscan friezes. These purples are elegant and warm, yet still making a statement.
Neutrals will always be popular, because it is very hard to go wrong with neutrals. Today’s neutrals can be tinted, as well, in shades of rose, blue and green. Colors like bisque and ivory create a warm ambiance without being overpowering.
If you prefer a warm, cozy feel in your bathroom, opt for peach, yellow or apricot. These shades make your skin look great, by the way when you are looking at yourself in the mirror. Warm shades make a bathroom look smaller, however, so make sure to use some white to balance them out.
Plan to have the color of your floor darker than the walls and ceiling. This ‘anchors’ the room. When choosing cabinets and vanities, remember that white ones make a room look larger while dark cabinets and woods should really only be used in a large bathroom because they give the impression of taking up a lot of room. Countertops should be neutral. That dark granite or marble may look beautiful in the showroom, but at home, it will show every water spot and speck of dirt. Faucets and fixtures are an area where you can have a lot of fun. There are so many styles and finishes to choose from. This is another way to express your personality in your bathroom.
