Chinese FengShui and Room Color Choice: (Chinese to English by Google Translate)

People of color, is shown the personality the most direct way of expression; of color at home, home style is to highlight the most powerful language. When people have a house of their own, the overall style of housing, although the focus of the layout, but how to choose interior colors, how to mix colors? How can we highlight the unique taste of the owner? As it is that allows different distributed throughout the home glory.

Free popular culture today, we in the free artificial colors, is very happy! At this time, “science and technology constellation Ziwei net” will also be on Fengshui宜忌home some color, and show to share with you.

Feng shui study, there is a very interesting statement: smallpox on behalf of the indoor days, the floor on behalf of, the walls are representative. Therefore, the choice of color, we must comply with the “muddy Tianqing to” rule, in other words, the color of the ceiling to make full use of light-colored, the color of the floor should be deeper than the ceiling, and wall color is between the ceiling and the floor between. From the visual sense, both among the changes in inter-level integration can be gradually, no significant unexpected. People living in this house, the enjoyment of nature, that is, God has reached the traditional sense, and the harmony and successful people.

How to choose color of the bedroom
The bedroom, it is best not to use too much red, black color decisions, which lead to extreme impulsive act,火气大on the health of disadvantaged families. The most suitable color is a neutral color, such as beige, gray and so on, which makes color coordination of yin and yang, family harmony. Typically, many people will be laid in the bedroom wooden floor. In fact, the primary color of wood is also very good color. The primary timber is a peaceful state of mind, feelings of marital stability.

Kids room with colors but also benefit from the concentration of color too easy to let children depression, unable to stay at home, often running out; color is too bright, but also allow the child the feeling of unrest, has become irascible temper. Therefore, the choice of color, they can based on the child’s preferences to choose a similar color with the light-colored line.

About the kitchen color selection
In addition, the clever use of color, but also to create a different visual. Take the kitchen, the space is too high, can be dignified handling of the dark, let the house to reduce anxiety, but also the proportion of a more harmonious look; space is too small, with bright colors, use light colors, to produce a sense of spacious comfort .

In short, the color in our lives, is really everywhere, according to principles of feng shui to reconcile the tone, so warm and peaceful home environment should be everyone’s right to pursue.
總之，色彩於我們的生活，真的是無處不在，根據風水原理來調和色調，讓家居環境變得溫馨祥和，應該是每個人都追求的吧。

The study is an important room in the house. Here are some useful feng shui tips for study room design.

Start by making sure that the study room is tidy. Studying in an untidy room can be quite distracting, so make sure that the room itself is clean and calm. Don’t leave things that are not necessary for studying strewn on the desk.

Take some time to make sure that everything has a proper place to sit, and look for broad expanses of clear space. This will give you plenty of room to work on the finer points of feng shui for better studying. Look for ways to keep the study desk itself as bare as you can, because that will help with focus.

If you have been wondering about working while taking care of your child, there are numerous ways you can achieve that. You need not go to an office as you can easily create an office at home. You can set up a business at home, you’re going to be spending a lot of your day [...]

Another thing that you will need to examine is how the study station is situated. This can help you determine how you want to set up the room, so make sure that you pay attention to it. First, remember that the desk of the person who is studying should be placed so that the window is to the left of the desk, if at all possible.

If there is no window there, hang a mirror instead, which can act in much the same way. Make sure that for the best results that the desk does not have the person who is sitting at it with their back to the door, as this can affect their concentration.

To give the room an open and inviting look, take a look at adding a wind chime or a plant near the window. You’ll find that in feng shui lore that this can prevent bad luck and bad influences from coming in through the window. Using bamboo or cactus in this place can add some extra protection there and it can help keep you or whoever is studying there sharply focused. You also might find that a wind chime can be a great tool to brighten up the room and to invite in positive influences.

Decorating with Feng Shui principles involves the movement of energy and moving blocked areas so energy moves at a balanced pace around the entire home. Feng Shui practitioners will use all types of tools to move this energy. This could involve decorating with mirrors, water, plants, color, sound, scent, and more.

Feng Shui philosophy is based on the five elements (fire, water, metal, wood, and earth), and relies heavily upon the creative cycle. The Chinese have used feng shui not only in home interior design, but also in agriculture and urban planning. Many of China’s major cities are planned using feng shui. Successful business people like Oprah Winfrey, Rupert Murdock, and Donald Trump have reportedly used feng shui in their homes, and many offices and hotels are now employing feng shui consultants. With many wealthy people using feng shui home interior design, designers with experience in this specialty are in high demand.

Some tips for Feng Shui decorating:

When embarking on Feng shui decorating, either at home or office, avoiding floor plans with small cramped rooms, keep the design free flowing. Avoid long hallways because the energy moves too quickly down the hall. Avoid excessive overhead lighting. Choose warm full spectrum lighting instead. While decorating with Feng Shui, keep sharp corners to a minimum. Place healthy plants in a decorative manner throughout the home. Arrange couches and chairs in a way that allows people to see the door and for easy conversation. Be careful of too many knick-knacks. This can mean decorative clutter and it can quickly get out of control.

Feng shui cures help in decorating with objects and products that can balance the energy levels and redirect harmful energy. Sharp corners and angles are never a part of Feng shui decoration since they are considered a destructive influence. A simple bamboo plant that is evergreen is a good luck symbol and is popularly used in Feng shui decorations. Decorating through Feng Shui principles is not hard, just feel the space and follow a few good Feng Shui ideas to decorate a home that’s great to live in.

Feng Shui for the bedroom, it is said to make a difference how you feel according to where you place the bed and what is around you when you sleep. Feng Shui suggests that you should feel safe and secure in a bedroom. This article gives you some tips about feng shui in bedroom.

1.Never place a ceiling fan above the bed because you don’t want the feeling of having fan blades above your head.

2.Avoid artwork that is aggressive, active or sad. Instead, surround your sleeping space with images that inspire, calm and uplift you. Paintings or photos of peaceful scenes that you love to imagine yourself in are excellent choices.

3.Don’t have photos of family or other friends in the bedroom as this is “your” space. Pictures of you and your partner is okay .

4.Place two pink candles or hearts on a side table in a bedroom; suggesting you would like a partner.

5.The head of the bed should not be over a window or you may feel lack of support.

6.Try not to bring work home from the office; only to work on it in the bedroom. You are sending the wrong message.
7.Place the bed so that the head of the head of the bed is opposite the door. You want to easily see people as they enter.

8.One mirror is enough. Too many mirrors activate energy flow and can disrupt sleep. Mirrored closet doors can be major culprits in contributing to insomnia. If you can’t sleep well, cover your mirrors for a few nights. You may be surprised to find that your sleep improves in a less active environment.

9.Paint your bedroom pink. I painted mine pink and two weeks later I met my husband.
10.Place earthy elements in a bedroom such as plants, stone, crystals or things that remind you of the earth
11.Having a night table on each side of the bed suggests there is another person in the bedroom, even when you do not have a partner

12.Don’t have a TV staring at you in bed. If you must watch TV, cover it up before you go to sleep at night.

13.Make sure your bedroom door opens and closes easily. Noisy doors are disturbing.

14.Master bedrooms benefit from warm colors. Warm tones help enhance communication while cool colors, such as blue, green and white, may have the opposite effect. Accessories in warm hues can help to counteract the effect of cooler colors in the bedroom.
15.Do not have a lot of books surrounding your head when you sleep. All of that information could be confusing and distracting your sleep.

These are just a few bedroom decorating thoughts using Feng Shui as a guide. Have a clear intention of what you want in life and go about getting it. You can apply Feng Shui guidelines throughout the home and office with this ancient art and just see what a difference you will feel in your home or bedroom with a few subtle changes.

Feng shui is developed from studies of the “Yi Jing” otherwise known as the book of changes. Feng Shui applies the principles of the five elements of the “Yi Jing” to balance energies in buildings. Therefore Chinese will refer to feng shui when comes to naming their children, furniture arrangement or even what they wear.

Besides overcoming bad energy in the house, people also hang or place crystals in their homes to accumulate or activate wealth luck. Some place crystals in the four major corners of their home to conquer bad energy or bad luck, and to bring plenty of wealth luck to the family. Auspicious brass statues endowed with all the desirable marks of excellence are placed in the wealth sector to bring prosperity luck to the family.

The Chi Lin combines the characteristics of the dragon, tiger, deer, lion, bear and boar believed to protect the house. The gold colored abacus is one of the popular feng shui items used for attracting business luck. Guan Gong is the most famous wealth god as well god of protection among the Chinese.

These days, authentic strains of feng shui are well accepted by the Americans. Some casinos in Las Vegas display a wealth god to attract Asian customers. During the Chinese New Year, most casinos will place a robotic wealth god to create a festive environment as well as attract plenty of wealth luck to the casino.

Mansions and Country Homes
These are usually surrounded by plenty of land which allows for easy flow of auspicious chi in and around the house. To create good feng shui in a mansion, you need the following:

1. The phoenix hill effect
Having a very subtle, low mound of earth just in front of the main door symbolizes the celestial phoenix, which brings excellent career and wealth-creation opportunities. It should be approx. 100 ft from the main door.

2. A pile of gold
Put a pile of gold near the main door. You can use a pile of rocks painted gold. This is especially beneficial for houses whose main doors are located in the NE or SW sector.

3. The bright hall effect
Make sure the main door opens to an unencumbered view where nothing blocks the flow of Sheng Chi into the home. This bright hall effect brings wealth to the family for many generations.

4. Avoid wide sweeping staircase
Large country homes sometimes have a wide and sweeping staircase. If you cannot change this, make sure the stairs do not directly face the front door. Move your front door if you cannot move the stairs.

5. Waterfall
Build a waterfall flowing towards the house where the Water Star 8 is located, determined by your Flying Star natal chart. Make sure there is a door or window facing the waterfall so the luck created is able to permeate your house.

6. Circular driveway is best
Build a waterfall flowing towards the house where the Water Star 8 is located, determined by your Flying Star natal chart. Make sure there is a door or window facing the waterfall so the luck created is able to permeate your house.
Semidetached, Terrace or Link Houses and Town Houses

For those who live in terrace or link houses, one of the best features you will enjoy will be the depth of the house. In feng shui, every house should have a depth equivalent to at least 3 rooms. Normally for link or townhouses, you are hardly able to do anything to the surrounding features. So make sure you at least achieve the following:

1. Make main door 2-panel door
This is allows enough chi to enter your house.

2. Protect main door
The main door should not directly face the staircase. It should also not open to a mirror. This will cause any auspicious chi flowing in to flow straight out again, causing loss of wealth.

3. Watch walls shared by bed
Beds should ideally not be placed against walls that have a toilet on the other side of the wall. The toilet will flush away your good fortune luck.

4. Avoid toilets above main door
Many terrace houses tend to be designed with master bedroom on upstairs floor with master bathroom above the main door. This causes the bad luck of the toilet to press down on the front door. Remedy this by shifting the main door, or shining a bright light from the main door up towards the ceiling.
5. Avoid 3 doors in a row
This creates a major poison arrow within your home. Remedy with a screen or beaded door divider.

What is Feng Shui?

Throughout ancient China, classical Feng Shui was a closely guarded discipline used as a tool to ensure the good health, wealth, and power of the imperial dynasties. The keepers of this secret knowledge were the Feng Shui masters, the highly respected scientists and astronomers who were charged with sustaining the good fortune and prosperity of the royal court.

These masters of Chinese geomancy were very selective of their protégées and extremely wary of sharing their Feng Shui knowledge with any outsider. As a result, few who claimed to be Feng Shui masters even knew the basic theories, which meant even fewer could practice with proficiency.

Today, Feng Shui charlatans continue to shroud their ignorance in cloaks of mystery and ritual. They take a “shotgun” approach to prescribing wind Chimes and mirrors, embellishing their charade with some incense and prayer.

Actually, a classical Feng Shui reading involves no guesswork. Every building has unique energy characteristics that need to be individually addressed, so be wary of practitioners who offer fixed or occult “cures”. Their prescribed remedies may actually do more harm than good.

How are the basic principles applied?
Feng Shui is based upon a set of theories and complex calculations derived from the Yi Jing. This includes an in-depth understanding and application of the theories of Yin and Yang, along with the balancing of the Five Elements (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood) and taking into account the physical relationship between the natural environment and the magnetic field.

How is a Feng Shui reading done?
A Feng Shui practitioner using a Lo-pan (compass) determines the energy characteristics of a building and its resultant effects on the building’s occupants. Calculations are done according to the basic principles, then remedies are prescribed where necessary in order to balance the energy so it will have a positive effect.

Is Feng Shui only applicable to houses?
Feng Shui can be applied to analyze the energy (Qi) of a city, state, country or even the world.

Are wind chimes a valid part of Feng Shui?
Yes, only if they are made of metal and used judiciously. If wind Chimes are placed improperly they can actually cause problems!

Is Feng Shui related to Buddhism or Taoism?
Feng Shui is not related to any religion or belief system. It is a scientific discipline based on the analysis of energy.

Courtyards, entrances and vestibules are transitional spaces between the outside world and the private domain. To the Oriental mind, the alignment of the entrance in relation to the exterior is vital to good feng shui because this is where the flow of energy or ch’i is controlled. The right entrance invites harmony, good fortune and well being. It is also here that negative forces, spirits, or influences are repelled.

Sha or ‘noxious vapor’ is the antithesis of ch’i. Doors and windows are orifices for the ch’i to enter. Here, clear glass doors link the yin and yang of spaces, the interior and exterior. The paving stones and pebbles on the ground suggest a riverbed with water flowing into the house. Water is the most potent symbol of wealth and prosperity to the Chinese.

A pair of ivory tusks converts into door handles as a fitting token for the owner who is in the jewelry business.

The most familiar method of Feng Shui is the compass method works on the principle of each sector of your house falling into a different area of your life, depending on its orientation. These sectors are identified by placing an octagonal, nine-sectioned diagram over a plan of your home. This diagram is known as the Ba Gua and is always aligned with the wall containing the front door or main entrance to the premises, with the compass points corresponding to those of the house directions. For example, if your front door faces North, then you should place the Ba Gua diagram on a plan of your property with the North sector (relating to career) aligned with the front door.

In the business environment, Feng Shui increases productivity and profitability, improves the health of its employees, enhances the company’s reputation, protects from insolvency and helps you to recognise and exploit opportunities as they arise.

Clearly, not all houses are uniformly square and the front door is not always centrally placed. In these situations, you will find that some of the sectors of the Ba Gua may be missing, indicating trouble in that particular area of a person’s life. However, steps can be taken to redress the imbalance like placing a bright light on the wall close to the missing sector to counteract the negative effects caused by areas that are lacking.

Feng Shui is a complex art, but there are simple rules that everyone can observe to help bring harmony into their lives by increasing the flow of positive energy in their environment and using effective lighting is one of the best ways of achieving this. Light is a very powerful tool in Feng Shui and the way in which you illuminate your home or office influences the impression that you create, including the shape, size and style of lighting that you choose.

There are many different types of lighting including decorative, accent, ambient, task and functional, with the most effective lighting schemes being a combination of all these. Accent light can be used to highlight a picture or display cabinet, ambient light can highlight dark corners and task light is used to throw a spotlight onto focused areas, such as a work desk.

A chandelier is one of the few all-round excellent Feng Shui energisers. The crystals in the chandelier reflect light beautifully, bringing in added glow and warmth. Hanging chandeliers in the southern corner of any room is beneficial and a chandelier in the Southwest corner of your home is wonderful if you wish to invite romance into your life or stimulate a current relationship! The Southwest sector relates to marriage and using pastel coloured lampshades with subdued lighting in this area can achieve the same effect.

You can invite excellent energy into your home by installing bright lights just inside and outside the front door are excellent, which for maximum benefit should be left on during the hours of darkness. Good lighting also helps stimulate the general flow of energy and is one of the best accessories for promoting balance and harmony within the home.

Lighting is one of the most cost-effective ways to enhance your environment. The right lighting can make small or uninviting areas feel alive, welcoming and tranquil. Lighting is a simple way of adding colour to a scheme, whether it is through choice of lamp base, shade or bulb. Investing in good quality lighting can also be a more economical alternative to major redecoration or the purchasing of expensive new furnishings.

Invest in a variety of stylish lighting and watch your health, prosperity and wellbeing flourish.

Below are 50 simple ways you can maintain a happy, clean, and organized office area at home by practicing the fundamentals of Feng Shui. By including the key elements fire, water, earth, and wood, you’ll have a work space that maximizes your productivity and energy while nurturing a calm, soothing balance.

Furniture

Rearrange furniture frequently. You don’t have to totally redo the setup of the whole room, but shifting your furniture frequently will maintain a healthy level of energy. You will subconsciously notice the changes, keeping you alert and on you toes. Try moving the desk a few inches closer to the window or switching the placement of two chairs. It may not seem like a big change aesthetically, but you’ll be able to feel the results instantly.

Move the TV to another room. Keeping the television in your home office will be a constant distraction. You can find all the news, stocktrading information, and other work-related updates you need on the Internet anyway. Move the TV out of your office and leave room for healthier, more natural workspace.

Don’t obstruct the doorway. Keep shoes, umbrellas, books, and other items put away. Keeping the entrance way clear will allow positive energy, or chi, to flow freely in and out of the room, uncontrained. You will be able to improve your mood as soon as you enter the room since your eyes won’timmediately jump to the clutter and disorganization and you won’t be tripping over mismatched shoes and the raincoat from last month.

Don’t lose sight of the door. Make sure all of your chairs and sofas are situated so that anyone sitting in your office will always be able to see the door. Having a way out and keeping track of who or what comes in is a traditional measure of good Feng Shui.

Leave at least 3 feet between furniture. A standard Feng Shui tip for arranging your furniture is to leave at least 3 feet between all the pieces in the room. For instance, leave 3 feet between your desk and the computer chair when unoccupied. Allow 3 feet between your 2 lounge chairs or between a chair and sofa. You can find other similar tips by clicking here.

Make sure your furniture represents the elements. You obviously won’t be able to have a desk made of fire, but try to incorporate the wood and metal elements into your furniture constitutions as much as possible. Most of your furniture will undoubtedly be made of wood, but see if you can find an end table made of aluminum or one that features a metallic finish.

Add pillows and blankets. Buy a couple of throw pillows and a comfy blanket to give your office a cozy appeal. Let them lie easily on your chairs or couch, but only indulge in wrapping yourself up in the blanket if it’s really chilly. You want to promote an easygoing atmosphere, but you don’t want to fall asleep at your desk! Try PotteryBarn.com for ideas.

Don’t overcrowd the room. Putting too much furniture or accessories in your office will lead to overcrowding. Overcrowding leads to a tense, nervous energy. Keep the amount of items in the room to a minimum, including only the furniture and electronics you need to conduct your business and host clients in a basic, but comfortable, way.

Give yourself a choice of places to sit. If you limit yourself to the one desk chair you use while on the computer, you’ll end up feeling cramped and panicky. Have at least one other sofa or chair for you to sit in while taking a break from the computer once in a while. Visit JCPenney.com for ideas. Changing your physical placement will keep you focused longer.

Be comfortable.Make sure all the furniture in the room is comfortable to you. Since it’s your office, you will be the one spending most (if not all) of your time there. Being comfortable will keep your mind off your external circumstances and allow you to work.

Light and Color

Windows When selecting a room for your home office, you should pick the one that has at least one window. Enveloping yourself in natural light helps keep you on track with the progression of day and night, keeping you in sync with the environment around you. Make sure the window has blinds or curtains, though, in case the sun is too bright or causes an irritating glare on your desk.

Lamps Putting lamps on your desk or end tables will allow you to control the amount of light you receive more pointedly. If the overhead light is too harsh for example turning it off and relying on lamps and the natural light from the window will keep you more relaxed and your eyes less strained. If the main light isn’t bright enough however, a lamp will help you see better and concentrate on your work, as your eyes will naturally be drawn to where the light is focused.

Light bulbs Choosing the right light bulbs for your home office is extremely important. You will want bulbs that radiate feelings of warmth. Avoid buying fluorescent lights altogether. Click here to read more about the benefits of lighting when creating a Feng Shui environment.

Blue Incorporating the color blue into your home office helps include an association with the element “water.” Blue is a soothing color and is best used in the East and Southeast areas of the room. According to Feng Shui expert Rodika Tchi, painting the ceiling blue is a great way to not only add color to your office, but to improve productivity and promote good energy.

Green According to Viewzone.com, green “is considered to be a color of freshness, growth, and peace,” so try adding cushions or pillows in light, subtle shades to give your office soothing energy with a punch of personality.

Red Bold reds are thought to introduce feelings wealth and happiness into a person’s life. Supplementing your otherwise subdued room with red accents will brighten your mood and perhaps even bring you luck. Don’t go overboard with strong reds or you may end up creating a negative energy infused with anger and agitation.

Metal Metallic accents will brighten up your room in a subtle way. Use a bronze paperweight or hang copper windchimes near the window to represent key Feng Shui element while allowing natural light to reflect off the metallic surfaces.

Earth tones Earth tones are known to be soothing shades of yellow, brown, and green. They generally make people feel comfortable and at ease because of their relationship to nature, so stick to these shades when designing your home office. A deep yellow rug or tan curtains will create a simplified atmosphere perfect for work.

Balance As with any Feng Shui practices, you must maintain a balance of color in your room. Adding too much blue and not enough red will leave your office vulnerable to the water element, for example. Keeping the elements in check through color is a fun, inspiring approach to Feng Shui interior design because of the choices you have to accessorize each area.

Mirrors Mirrors help positive energy dart about the room by letting in more light and allowing you to keep your eye on what normally wouldn’t be seen. Hang a mirror over your computer to watch the wall behind you and open up the space around you. Mirrors maximize your space by making rooms appear much larger than they actually are, making the office feel roomy and uncramped.

Decorations and Plants

Put up family photos To make your home office more inviting, hang up or display photos of you with family and friends. You’ll make yourself more comfortable by seeing familiar faces and recalling fun memories. Use a variety both wood and metal frames to incorporate the two elements.

Paintings Paintings are also positive additions to your home office. Choose ones that feature garden scenes, landscapes, and other natural designs to invite earth tones and keep you in touch with the environment.

Crystals Certain crystals like quartz, amethyst, and malachite increase the power of Feng Shui. Click here to read more about where to place crystals in your room and to find out which ones will benefit you the most.

Flowers Introducing plant life into your home office will boost your spirits and help balance out the elements. Plants, even flowers, represent wood. Put a potted plant on the windowsill or situate a larger fern or hibiscus plant in a corner to brighten up the room. Click here for specific tips and ideas for bringing in the right flowers for your space.

Bamboo Bamboo also represents the element wood and is considered to be extremely lucky. Read Diane Kern’s ideas for selecting and maintaining bamboo to ensure that the plant brings you the best luck possible.

Fountain Having a small water fountain in your home office is good for many reasons. The sound of the running water will soothe your senses, the water element will be fully represented, and according to the Target Woman, the fountain will “attract and trap the chi.”

Caring for a plant. Having a plant in your home office will do no good if you can’t keep it alive. Dying or dead plants will increase the amount of negative energy, making you feel depressed and frustrated. Refer to the Garden Guide Web site to learn tips about container gardening.

Place wall decorations at eye level. Hanging up pictures any old way is a direct infringement of Feng Shui practice. Let all your wall decorations hang at eye level, creating a consistent, organized aesthetic.

Avoid sharp-cornered objects. Sharp-cornered objects are not only potentially harmful, they are also believed to obstruct the pathway of chi. Your desk will most likely have sharp corners, but as long as you are not sitting where they point directly at you, the chi will still be able to flow around you easily.

If it doesn’t have a function, you don’t need it. If your end table doesn’t hold up a lamp or represent any of the key elements, you probably don’t need it. Get rid of any decor that doesn’t serve some sort of Feng Shui function by balancing out the elements, and you’ll free up space and feel better about everything that does belong.

Sound and Scent

Music Play soothing music throughout the day to alleviate stress, calm nerves, and keep you relaxed. Try a Norah Jones CD or listen to something purely instrumental so you won’t get caught up in the lyrics.

Eliminate distractions. Close the door if others are at home with you so that you don’t have to listen to distracting noises. Eliminating unnatural, exterior noise will keep you focused on your work and will allow the chi to move around your room with minimal disruptions.

Evaluate your reactions to certain noises. Does the sound of birds chirping keep you relaxed? Does the rumbling dishwasher make you stressed? Evaluate your reactions to everyday noises and then try to accommodate accordingly. Crack the window a little to let in natural noises and drown out that dishwasher. Or, turn up your music to keep out the bothersome weed eater outside.

Pick a room located far away from loud noises. When selecting the perfect room for your home office, pick one that is located far away from loud, distracting noises. For example, if your neighbors are always out on their front lawn playing or visiting, go to a room that’s located at the back of your house. If the neighbor on your left has a dog that barks all day long, choose a room on the other side of the house. Eliminating as much extra noise as possible will help you concentrate.

Candles Light candles to welcome scent and give your office a relaxed atmosphere. The warm flame is a soft, natural representation of fire that also helps you feel cozy. Visit the Yankee Candle Comapny Web site to find your favorite scents and special seasonal deals.

Incense Lighting incense is another way to bring scent into the room. Many incense smells like the ones found here are believed to promote healthy chi.

Garbage Take out the garbage often to get rid of bad smells that will interrupt your room’s chi. Mildew, garbage, and other noisome scents will also distract you until they are eliminated. Empty out your trash several times each week to keep bad smells from developing in the first place.

Citrus Citrusy scents like tangerine and mandarin increase the amount of energy in the room, keeping you awake and alert even after hours of work.

Geranium and Lavender These soothing scents will calm nerves and help you keep things in perspective. Click here to read more about which scents are good for promoting your room’s chi.

Burning oil Burning tiny amounts of oil will cause your room to smell better in seconds. Try out one of these oil burners from The Body Shop to improve your room’s fragrance.

Eliminate Clutter

Don’t use your workspace for any other chores. Clutter will immediately destroy any good energy that was present in your home office before. To help eliminate mess, don’t use your workspace for any other purpose other than business. Don’t fold laundry, pay bills, or let your kids play on the computer in the room that you’ve specially designed for work.

Organize your desk.Invest in a collection of wire baskets that stack on the top of your desk to eliminate floating papers and general clutter. Office Depot carries a large stock of desk accessories that will minimize the amount of roaming items and keep you from losing important items. Clean up the inside of your desk by sliding in dividers or small containers that will hold paperclips, rubberbands, and extra staples.

File papers. It might seem old-fashioned, but every office needs a filing system. Buy a simple filing cabinet and start filling it up. To make sure you can find your papers easily, make a folder for almost everything. Divide topics into subtopics, and divide those further. It might take a little extra work in the beginning, but when you’re trying to find a specific document, you’ll be glad you did. Choose multicolored folders and use separate colors for different projects, clients, or months.

Clean up before ending each workday. As a part of your daily routine, straighten up your desk and office before leaving each day. This practice will help keep you organized and ready for the following day, and when you begin work in the morning, you won’t be walking into a messy room. Instead of seeing stacks of papers and clutter, your eyes will settle on the calm organization you’ve worked so hard to preserve.

Hide unruly cords and cables. Even though you’ve taken the TV out of your office, your computer and radio and/or CD player have lots of messy cords ruining your simplistic mood. Having to look at a tangle of wires will stress you out and distract you from your work. Use a surge protector to safely plug in all those wires to your wall, and use hefty twist ties to prevent tangling. Try investing in a cable kit, like this one from cable-safe.com.

Bring in as little food as possible. Being able to work from home means that you can eat in the kitchen. Try not to bring food into your office, as it will only add to the clutter and garbage. If you do decide to have a snack, make sure you clean it up as soon as possible.

Hide your magazines and manuals. Old magazines, guidebooks, and manuals can stack up quickly, leaving your home office looking more like a dusty library than a Feng Shui refuge. If you’re not ready to throw everything out, hide items in a basket underneath a side table or stash them inside hollowed out ottomans. You’ll never know there’s a messy collection of Reader’s Digest underneath you feet!

Buy a bookshelf. Use a bookshelf for books and manuals that you refer to frequently. Put taller items at the end of each shelf and shorter ones in the middle. This organization idea will make your books look better and stand straighter.

Separate your mail. Sort your mail as soon as you come from the mailbox, and separate your personal items from business-related envelopes and packages. Take with you to your office the mail that is for work only, and keep it in a basket or on a shelf designated for mail. Each week, file or throw away old bills and envelopes to keep the stack small.

Make to-do lists to keep your mind clutter-free. Breathe deeply. Don’t get overwhelmed, you’ll be able to finish it all. To avoid panic attacks at work, make yourself several “to do” lists throughout the day. Whether they’re involved outlines on the computer or a simple note dashed on a post it, keeping track of what you need to accomplish will ease your mind and keep you organized. Re-prioritize after lunch, and make a new list for the afternoon or following morning.

Following the practices of Feng Shui will help organize the movement and energy in your home office, essentially increasing your productivity and improving your mood. By balancing out the elements of fire, water, wood, and earth as you arrange furniture, maximize the benefits and focus of light and color, decorate in an organized manner, realize the potential of sound and scent, and eliminate clutter, your home office will not only be a productive environment for work, it will also be your own personal refuge.
