From all of the things you can buy for your favorite girl or boy, why a play kitchen?

First and foremost, it creates interactive play. It encourages imagination. It allows your child to role play and cook like Mom or Dad. This is a great way to play with your child, and a great way for your child to play with friends. And if you choose, you can turn kitchen play into a learning opportunity. Play food can be used to teach about different foods and nutrition. Also social skills can be practiced with serving food and play eating together. What sort of play kitchen do you want? Children’s kitchens range from very small toy kitchens to very large and feature full. You can find a single unit kids kitchen, which include many appliances, to multi-piece kitchen play sets with individual appliances. Choosing a play kitchen set depends on the age of the child, your budget and your setting. It also depends on your personal philosophy. Where is that play kitchen made? Is it eco-friendly and made with sustainable manufacturing and fair business practices.

Ohdeedoh highlighted a great play kitchen project made from a $15 bedside table from IKEA and related parts. The hardest part of projects like this is cutting a round hole, which requires a bit more toolage than the rest. Then again, I never knew you could get jigsaws so cheaply – Black & Decker isn’t the best toolmaker out there, but this $30 model gets high marks from consumers. (You’ll need a drill too for a starter hole, but most families have that already!)

What kinds of play kitchens are available?

Single Unit Kitchens – These play kitchens include many appliances such as a stove, oven, microwave and sink in one unit. These units have a “front” and “back”, so that they can be placed against a wall. Typically this style of toy kitchen is either a “assembly-required” wooden kitchen or it is made from molded plastic. A typical large, self-assemble wooden kitchen measures about four feet long, four feet tall, and about two feet deep.

Island Play Kitchen – These are stand-alone pretend kitchens. Children can play on all sides of these kitchens. Island play kitchens also feature various combinations of sink, stove, ovens and microwaves. Toddler kitchens are typically this style.

Complete Kitchen Play Sets – We are talking about a multi-appliance set here. There are separate toy stoves, toy refrigerators, toy microwaves, toy sinks, and toy dishwashers.

Table Top Toy Kitchens – These are small, typically “two burner” stoves, that are designed with portability in mind. These pretend kitchens can be moved from room to room and be used on a table, shelf or even the floor.

Natural wooden kitchens – These kitchens are made from solid wood and not particle board. Many of the “assembly-required” are made from laminated particle board and are still considered wood by the manufacturer. The natural wooden kitchens are typically made from spruce, pine or cedar. Many of these designs are more abstract in nature. That is they do not offer realistic detail; however, there is no mistaking that these are play kitchens. They usually combine a sink and stove and have moving parts. It is just that the details are left to the child’s imagination.

When you are theme decorating a girls room, you should know that a good wall color is the best foundation you can have. From that one color alone, you can start choosing decorations that would fit. But since you are most likely going to start this whilst the kid is still a toddler then your mind must be going through palettes of pastels right now. There’s no problem with that, however, your kid would most likely outgrow the pastel and you could end up re-painting the whole room which can cost quite a bit. Every little girl wants to be a princes, and decorating her room in a princess style will really make her feel specia. The most common color for a girl’s princess room is pink, so we’ll start with that. Pink can come in various hues from the light, pastel ones to the darker ones such as fuchsia and hot pink. Play with hues. You can start from a nice pastel pink color and add details in darker hues. Such as children’s bedding or a rug in hot pink. Of course, you would need to balance this out with a few white furnishing just so the room won’t end up looking monotonous. Pink is definitely fit for a princess so if you are decorating a room around that theme, the tips above would work very well for you.

Vintage luggage as a night stand or side table can probably be found at yard sales or thrift stores, and lend themselves to a slightly “disheveled” look.

A pile of pretty pillows and a throw can disguise a not-so-great couch. And pillows are less expensive and easier to change out than a couch.

Again, these storage areas are kept looking tidy because all of the boxes, containers, and fabrics color coordinate.

Decorating children’s bathroom needs more consideration, but It is definitely not as difficult as some lead you to believe. If you’re designing a bath for use just by kids, you may want to keep costly installed materials fairly neutral, but you can go wild with everything else. Brightly painted walls make a huge impact, and, even better.

The best idea is to create a neutral base for your decorating plans. Pick a standard, white bathroom suite – nothing too old-fashioned and traditional, but equally, nothing that stands out as too modern. Also pick white, or neutral, tiles. Your kids will grow up quicker than you think. A decorating scheme that is perfect for tiny tots, will soon appear childish as they grow a little older. With a neutral bathroom structure, you can easily and cheaply get a whole new look, whenever you want.

Since most bathroom spaces are small, save the murals for the children’ bedrooms. A lively shade is all that’s needed to bring bathroom walls to life. Naturally, if you’re going with a theme, it will dictate the color you choose. For example, turquoise is a perfect fit for an underwater scheme, a sky fantasy bathroom might have walls painted robin’s egg blue, and a soft green makes the perfect backdrop for a jungle-themed bathroom. Stencils and vinyl decals let you add character to the walls, while a peppy-printed shower curtain pulls the whole look together.

For toddlers and small children, try to make it simple for them to learn how to use a bathroom. Get a small step for the toilet and basin, so tiny tots can reach easily – they will soon be learning how to do it on their own.

Make sure taps can be turned on and off easily, so they are user friendly for your kids. Also consider installing a push-button flush toilet. Can’t you remember being a kid yourself — and trying to get the hang of that tricky flush-handle?

Don’t forget to add safety to your design list. Whether you choose a rubber bath mat or non-slip adhesive decals, make sure the bottom of the tub or shower your child will use has a bottom covering that provides traction. Make those decals or bath mats a bright color, and you’ll draw your child’s attention as he steps in, subtly developing a safety habit of looking where you step.

2 if you have a plain bathroom structure, you can change the wall color, and other elements, quickly and easily. You can get a whole new look to wow your kids with.

3 Include lots of fun, inexpensive accessories when decorating kids’ bathrooms – such as, soap dishes, soap dispensers, toilet roll holders, light-pulls. If necessary, these can be easily changed and replaced, as your child grows up.

4 Think about storage. Whether your kids are tiny, with loads of bath-time toys, or teenagers, with tons of toiletries, make sure there is plenty of storage, to keep the clutter down. Position storage boxes in easy-to-find spots, within easy reach – or kids just won’t use them. Boxes or baskets without lids are a real user-friendly option. Keep a shelf free for a few items which are in daily use.

5 If your kids are very tiny, make it easy for them to use your bathroom. Get little steps for them to reach the toilet and basin easily.

6 Fit a push-button flush on your toilet. It is much more kid friendly than a traditional handle.

7 Use a shower curtain in the same color, or a co-ordinating color. Learn how to use a color wheel to discover ideal decorating color schemes that you know will work.

8 Add big, soft, fluffy towels and a bathmat in bright colors too. Make sure your bathroom includes a large towel-rail, within easy reach – it will encourage your kids to hang the towels back up after use (…. hopefully!)

9 Include a large linen basket to encourage your kids to keep clothes off the floor.

10 Make sure you use the correct light fixtures for wet areas – safety is all important. Water and electricity do not mix! Be very careful, and take professional advice if necessary. And remember, little kids in a bath splash – a lot!

Play is the child’s nature, Every child need a single room to play, it must be soft, comfort, safe and helpful to intelligence.

There are some considerations for a toy room decorating.

Simple decor – Keep it simple. Too much color, too many toys or too many designs can overstimulate your child.
Color – Go with a neutral wall color if you plan to add murals or brightly-colored furniture. For added color punch you can always paint one wall a bright color like red, hot pink or ocean blue. Encourage creativity by painting one wall (or the bottom third of all walls) with blackboard paint

Decorate at eyelevel – Furniture that is too tall can be unsafe. You don’t want your child climbing up on a bookcase to get their favorite toy off the top shelf.

Furniture – Every toy room needs great seating and work surfaces. Soft cubed ottomans, benches, art easels, tables and chairs sized to fit the occupants – each can provide a fun and comfortable to play. Look for practical, sturdy furniture. You can maximize floor space in small rooms with multi-function furniture such as storage cubes used as the base for a play table like Ikea’s Trofast frames and storage boxes and Wish Room’s storage units. Don’t forget to include some seating for adults too! Unfinished furniture is a great start for brightly colored chests, tables and chairs. Use small toys for knobs.

Storage – Shelves, tubs, baskets, wall cubes are all critical elements to store and display toys, games, puzzles, books, art supplies and projects. You can buy wall-to-wall bookshelves and bin storage sets from Target or Pottery Barn Kids. Storage units should be easy access for the child to add and remove toys.

Window Treatments – Dress the windows with colorful curtains made from bed sheets. For added privacy or light control you can add blinds and shades in a contrasting color. Printed blinds made in various Disney themes are always a hit with kids. If the room doesn’t have windows, add framed pieces of mural scenes or cloud-printed wallpaper.
Carpet – Even if your room has wall-to-wall carpeting, you should consider adding an area rug to your toyroom area. The rug provides extra warmth and protection for little occupants – as well protection against stains to floors and carpet from wayward paints and snacks. The rug could be anything from an inexpensive carpet remnant in a bright color to a fun kid’s rug in a game or map design.
