Make a few chain stitches between each bauble. To add the bauble (star, felt flower, bead, etc.), slide the item up to your hook, yarn over (letting the item drop to the back of the work), and draw through the loop on your hook. You may want to vary the number of chains between each thing—it’s up to you!

To get started, gather all of your supplies.
I collected scrap yarn (light worsted weight), buttons, beads, felt flowers, and fabric scraps (which I cut into stars). You’ll also need scissors, a yarn needle, and a size I-9 crochet hook—other sizes will work, too, but that’s what I used.

To make the stars, draw a star on a piece of paper and use it as a template. Cut stars from fabric scraps. Fold a few stars in half and roughly cut out a slit in their centers so that you’ll be able to thread them onto the garland.
Next, thread ALL of the materials onto the yarn. You’ll need to keep pushing them back when you just want to crochet with the yarn, so keep that in mind when you load it up. To make this easier, you can make several shorter lengths of garland and connect them.

Be sure to vary the arrangement of all of your pretty things—star, bead, button, flower, star, bead, etc. Push all of the baubles toward the ball end of the yarn so that you have a few feet of yarn to work with. Make a few crochet chains to start. (To make a chain: Yarn over and draw the loop through the loop on your hook. Repeat.)

To add a bauble, slide it up to your hook, yarn over (letting the item drop to the back of the work), and draw through the loop on your hook. Make a few more chain stitches before adding the next bauble. You may want to vary the number of chains between each one.
