How To Clean Bathtub

How do you clean bathtub while avoiding a lot of pitfalls along the way? This article gives you some bathtub cleaning tips and tell you how to clean a bathtub step by step.

First, you’ve got to make sure that you have the right tools:

A scrubbing brush with a protruding handle
A black, heavy duty pair of gloves
Lots of hot water

Before you go ahead and scrub there’s still a few things you need to do to make the job easier. Open the bathroom window. The detergent can be harmful to your lungs, so you pretty much need more fresh air coming in. Of course, if there’s a working exhaust fan in the bathroom you will not need to do this. That is, unless it’s really getting hot around there and a whiff of cool air will help you work with more comfort .

cleaning bathtub step by step

  1. Run or pour hot water all over the inside of the tub. A bucket is the best way, unless you have a very mobile showerhead.
  2. Spray the cleaner at the top of one side, and give it a few seconds to run down to the bottom.
  3. Scrub where you sprayed the cleaner, and down to the flat. Scrub hard, until it looks clean.
  4. Move a few inches to the side and repeat from step 2.
  5. Once you get back to where you started, run hot water over the sides again.
  6. Run your hands around the tub. If you feel any roughness, scrub there some more, because it’s not clean yet.
  7. Spray and scrub the splash guard around the tub. The buildup will be a lot lighter here, but it still needs to be cleaned.
  8. If you have a door instead of a curtain, it needs to be washed too.
  9. Spray and scrub the tap, showerhead, and anything else you haven’t washed. Soap dish, towel rack, it all needs to be done.
  10. Run hot water over everything. Twice. You don’t want to leave residue.
  11. Check the bottom of the tub. If you’ve got a puddle of dirty water, then unclog the drain. And run clean hot water over the bottom once it’s drained.
  12. Wash the outside of the tub. You probably won’t need the cleaner there, just a little elbow grease.

Cleaning the bathtub and tub area frequently will lessen the scrubbing required. Do a quick clean once a week, instead of an hour-long scrub after two or more weeks.
