Modern Chairs Design By Modernist Architects

Frank Gehry Twist Cube
All cubes are not created alike, as proven by Frank Gehry’s twist cube, featured as part of his 2004 furniture collection. The cube is made of molded plastic and can be used as a seat or table. The hollowed out interior and thick walls ensure a structured shape that is protected against stress-related damage.
The most celebrated architect working today, Frank Gehry has single-handedly changed conventional ideas about architecture. Gehry´s unique vision has brought him numerous honors, including the 1989 Pritzker Prize, the 1998 National Medal of Arts Award, the 2000 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal. Yet he does not rest on his laurels.
With his original and controversial vision, he continues to take creative risks and to transcend the boundaries of architecture.
“This is the beginning of an exploration.” Frank Gehry

The Nekton (set of four) stools is the latest design masterpiece created by Zaha Hadid for Established & Sons.
Launched at the Milan Furniture Fair in April 2007 the Nekton stools are the latest manifest of the now-famous Zaha Hadid aesthetic, being both curvaceous and tactile. They can be scattered and used individually or combined in clusters as a whole seating system that can be customised to
suit any space. “The Nekton stools can constantly be adapted and changed to accommodate any seating need by expanding both the interlocked and individual pieces.” Zaha Hadid
Established & Sons have collaborated with Zaha Hadid since its inception in 2005. Having exhibited the Limited Edition version of The Aqua Table at the Milan Furniture Fair, 2005 they launched the production version of the Aqua Table at London Design Week in 2005, this can be seen below in two of its different finishes.

This acclaimed table is a recognised tour de force of contemporary furniture design.

Fluidity is the key characteristic of the Aqua Table¹s form. It consists of three fin-like legs that appear to be in motion and register as indentations on the gently undulating tabletop. The Aqua Table is an uninterrupted whole a curious and curvaceous form that invites viewers to engage with it.
The Aqua Table is available in both satin matt and high gloss hand finishes.
This design is challenging and daringand quite clearly the work of one of the greatest talents in contemporary culture.
