Antique Cottage Style Bedroom Designs

Dark interiors are brought to life with the addition of clean white bedding and linens. Floral details on the shams and duvet serve as a rustic compliment to the raw oak in the exposed support beam and dry-stacked hearth with stones that could otherwise be bulky and cold. Additional feminine details like the painted, antique chest at the edge of the bed, aged chandelier lend themselves to creating a comforting cottage appeal.

An early-1800s Southern rope bed features a headboard that can be removed or be hooked into an upright position, ostensibly to encourage air circulation in summer and to block drafts in winter. Pine shutters serve as a neutral counterpoint and perfect pair for the rooms, aging green-painted walls. Ornate touches are limited to an elegant, antique light fixture in order to compliment but not overtake the quiet feel of the room.

In the master bedroom, a vintage French sewing cabinet doubles as a headboard. The motor-court sign was discovered at a local antique show and serves as an eye-catching and whimsical focal point around which additional seating and light fixtures are placed.

Create a one-of-a-kind setting and show how much you care about your animals with grace and just a touch of humor. A handsomely carved c. 1905 English bed found helps create a cozy feel in the master bedroom; balloon shades soften the double-hung windows. The bed had been fitted with a patchwork pinwheel quilt and is adorned with whimsical needlepoint pillows featuring various dog breeds.

An antique quilt rests on an aged blanket chest; and old ticking fabric covers the lampshade; netting forms a delicate canopy on the 19th-century mahogany American bed and gossamer curtains from Pine Cone Hill are at the windows.

Thinking about decorating your room in blue and white? This color union is a match mirrored in the sky and clouds, the snowy mountains, the ocean and breaker waves. Perhaps this sympathy with nature is why blue and white decorating schemes have always been popular.
Blue is a color theme, and it sounds as if you have enough of a variety in the different shades of the color. The living room suite is denim blue, but look at the shades in the design on the fabric: mauve, purple, blue. Assuming the curtains are another shade of blue, and that there’s some variety in the blues of the “what-nots,” you’ve got a theme going right here.
