Decorating a Bedroom with Blue and White

Combining blue, taupe, and white makes for a very soothing color palette, especially in the bedroom. Fabrics boasting toiles, stripes, or textures are inviting to all familly members year ’round.

Refurbishing is all the rage now, and for many refurbishing their bedroom is high on their list. So if you’re designing your bedroom new, or refurbishing, here’s a few things you might like to think about before you start buying at the store.
1. Have a plan. It’s easy to see a great bed, love it, buy it and then wonder what else you’ll put with it to make it fit in with the room. Before you buy anything for your bedroom you need to decide on a few basic things and preferably write down a decoration plan.
What theme is your bedroom to be? For a child it might be a Winnie the Pooh theme for example, for an adult it might be a color or a period. Or perhaps a certain style of furnishing. You need to decide on an overall theme for your bedroom decorations, then select your bed, bedding and general bedroom furniture to go along with that theme. Including paint color and carpet color of course. Write it all down and plan it all before you start buying.

Interior Color Ideas – How to Choose Paint Color For Home
Color decorating ideas, to me, are just that: ideas to be played with. Through experimentation you will soon learn that, yes you can use deep plum on one wall and a deep pink on the other three walls, with a terracotta carpet to finish. With white for the ceiling, coving, fitted furniture and door, the room acquires a warm, welcoming ambience that is a delight to enter. Take other color decorating ideas to achieve a different ethos: four walls decorated in mint green, with white ceiling and coving and doorway and a cream carpet. Enter this room and you are enfolded in a sense of total calm and harmony that is almost soporific. The only accent in this room is three long mirrors laid horizontally along the back wall. Nothing else, but the room speaks volumes in holistic tranquility. Now, if I were to ask you to imagine this mint green room as described and then leave the room. Imagine closing the door behind you. Next time you enter that room a black vase has been placed on a bedside table. Inside that black vase is a single red flower. At the window is a set of cherry red blinds. The bed is now made up with a black duvet cover and a cherry red bed throw at the end of the bed. The color decorating ideas have not changed but the accessories have – and so has the ethos of the room. Gone is that soporific element of tranquility: this has been replaced by a sense of modern chic. All that has altered are the accessories. This is how you take the basic principles of color decorating ideas and alter them slightly to achieve alternative moods for each room. When you understand the rules, color decorating ideas can become fun and successful and never something to shy away from.
Home Decorating based on your Color Personality
Confused about selecting color for your home? Why not try choosing decorating colors based on your unique personality? I decided to have a bit of fun and searched out several websites that discuss color personality types.
The Pratt and Lambert color quiz was the most comprehensive color personality test of all those I reviewed. Taking into account not only color likes but other factors that make you uniquely you. This test was the only one that returned a color scheme that was very similar to my personal decorating style. I was impressed. According to the Pratt & Lambert site my color personality: [Read more →]

If I was choosing a color scheme for my living room I would go to the cooler colors on my color wheel chart – the blues and greens which can be used in different shades to achieve a ‘joined-up’ look of cool elegance.

Pink Theme For Your Girl’s Bedroom
When you are theme decorating a girls room, you should know that a good wall color is the best foundation you can have. From that one color alone, you can start choosing decorations that would fit. But since you are most likely going to start this whilst the kid is still a toddler then your mind must be going through palettes of pastels right now. There’s no problem with that, however, your kid would most likely outgrow the pastel and you could end up re-painting the whole room which can cost quite a bit. But if you are fine with that, then here are some great Girls bedroom decorating ideas based on certain kinds of colors and at the same time following a girls room theme.
Every little girl wants to be a princes, and decorating her room in a princess style will really make her feel specia. The most common color for a girl’s princess room is pink, so we’ll start with that. Pink can come in various hues from the light, pastel ones to the darker ones such as fuchsia and hot pink. Play with hues. You can start from a nice pastel pink color and add details in darker hues. Such as children’s bedding or a rug in hot pink. Of course, you would need to balance this out with a few white furnishing just so the room won’t end up looking monotonous. Pink is definitely fit for a princess so if you are decorating a room around that theme, the tips above would work very well for you.

Color decorating can also be great help if you can’t think of a nice theme for your girls room. The color itself could become the theme which is not only easier when compared to having something like a French theme or a Princess theme . As I’ve said earlier, from one single color you can get numerous ideas for decoration. Just play around with the different hues to give the room depth. Never go for a single hue when decorating a room because doing so would leave it flat looking and too monotonous. (photos: housetohome, article: B Wilson)
