SANTPERE47 is a typical Barcelona’s apartment of the end of the 19th century that was recently renovated by Miel Architects. As any other apartment should, it features very creative space saving storage solutions. When decorating a small room, use bright colors and make use of fabrics complimenting your bed linens, throws and pillows, to add a romantic touch to your tiny home, apartment or dorm decor.

Small Apartment Decor Ideas
Furniture plays a pivotal role in every home décor. The choice of home furnishings can either create or occupy space.
Do not go for bulky sofa sets, because they are difficult to move, occupy a whole lot of space and make the room look cramped. Small pieces of furniture such as an ottoman, an armless, open chair, low table will open up the space. A frugal option is sofa-cum-bed, which can be unfolded to serve as a bed during the night.

The arrangement of furniture is another thing to consider. Make sure that you place the largest piece of furniture, probably the couch, against the longest wall of the room. Keep the furniture away from the walkways, so that people do not stumble upon it while coming or going out of the room.

Living room and dining room

Lighting is another important factor in determining the look of the room. For a small apartment, the rooms should be illuminated in such a way that space is opened up. Ceiling lights are a strict no-no in this case, because they tend to cut off the height of the room. Soft lighting is preferable. Go for recessed lighting. Install more lamps in your home. Eliminate shadows at the corners of the rooms by placing soft incandescent lights at strategic locations.
Apart from artificial lighting, natural light also plays a pivotal role in creating the illusion of space. Open the windows of your room during daytime, so that your rooms are illuminated with sun’s rays.

Laced curtains are good, because they provide good ventilation as well as allow the light to pass through, during the day.
Mirrors can open up a considerable amount of space, because they reflect light. Use large decorative mirrors for the purpose.

White and blue bathroom.

Use minimal number of accessories for your rooms, because they create clutter. Stick to small sized throw pillows, wall hangings and framed photographs or artwork.
Last but not the least – keep your home free of clutter. Organize things on cupboards, closets and drawers. When things are neatly arranged and out of sight, the space in the home is opened up automatically.

French Provincial fabrics are another distinct fabric style used in French decorating. Here is an example of these. These Provincial fabrics are what we would most likely call calico. You will notice their intense colors and small repeated patterns. These textiles are available from fabric and quilting stores. You can always purchase a variety of pre-made French Style textiles. You will find everything from place mats and table linens, to bedding and draperies. These charming linens will give your home that distinct French look you desire. You may want to accent the French Provincial and Toile fabrics with striped and checkered fabrics. These make a nice contrast with the busier patterns. Remember, Cottage Style is all about mixing and matching of patterns.
French Country Decorating Ideas
Inspired by the natural elements of the French countryside, French Country style is all about rustic charm and old-world elegance. It’s a comfortable and earthy style, and can either be grand and elegant like an old French chateaux, or cozy and homey like a simple country cottage. While the look can vary widely, there are certain characteristics that are common to the style.
French Country Style and Materials
An important element of French Country decorating is the use of natural materials. Stone, wood, and rattan are very common. Rough, stained, or painted plaster walls; rusted iron; wood-beamed ceilings and walls; carved wood details; and chair seats woven of rush, are the hallmarks of the French Country style. The flooring in French Country homes is also rustic. Natural stone, brick, terra cotta, and wood plank floors are dotted with wool or cotton rugs to add softness. The effect is one of absolute charm. Typical of French Country interiors are pieces with contrasting color and texture. Pale plaster walls and ceilings are punctuated with dark rough wood beams. Colorful Provencal printed fabrics such as toile are set off against light-toned natural seating.
Color and Fabric in French Country Decorating
Colors in French Country decorating are inspired by the colors of the countryside. Rolling hills full of lavender, lush fields, sparkling waters, stone buildings, and bright sunshine are the inspiration. When choosing colors, it’s best to stay on the warm side of the color wheel (think soft and sunny), and mix them with natural stones and woods. The idea is to bring the outdoors in. French Country furniture is often painted gray. It is reminiscent of the stone and gravel pathways in the French countryside and it offsets the other colors beautifully. Toile is a traditional design for French Country fabrics. Small scenes of things like picnics, courting scenes, and animals are set against plain cream or white backgrounds. The scenes themselves are often (but not always) blue, red, or black. Most of these toile patterns are printed on linen, or cotton. In fact, heavy cottons are frequently used in French Country decorating, and are contrasted with sheer lace (used for things such as window curtains). Other patterns that appear frequently on French Country fabrics are basic plaids, checks, and sometimes, stripes.
French Country Furniture and Accessories French Country furnishings are characterized by simple, graceful lines with delicate curves and hand-carved decorations. If there is one word that can describe French Country furniture, that word would be rustic. Distressed wood, worn painted finishes and rusted metals are very common. French Country furniture looks like it has been passed down through generations, even if the pieces are brand new reproductions. When it comes to French Country, weathered and worn is not only acceptable, it is desirable. Common pieces of furniture and accessories:

The ideal laundry room has a table for folding, shelving or cabinets for storage, a clothes-sorting system, a drying rack, a place to hang clothes, a wastebasket, an ironing board and iron. All of these elements can fit into a surprisingly small or seemingly awkward space.

Adding a shelf can be extremely simple with an Over-the-Washer Shelf. This shelf attaches over a washer without tools to add a shelf for detergents and other laundry supplies.

Organizing a small laundry room, you have to pay attention to the natural function of the room. Hiding the washer and dryer is an option, but how much trouble will it be to get to if it’s draped with fabric or covered by a “counter” that can be lifted off. Personally, I’d rather be able to use them without having to work too hard to get to them.
